AbbVie (ABBV) stock analysis, October 30, 2026: Uptrend intact at 52-week high after earnings

Published October 30, 2026 · ABBV chart, levels and live analysis

AbbVie Inc. (ABBV) reported third-quarter results on October 30, 2026, with revenue of $17.4 billion, up 10.3%. The shares trade at $295.16, a 52-week high, up 1.5% on a day the S&P 500 fell. The balance of evidence leans positive for the next two to six weeks, with high conviction. The weak spot is price: the stock sits above the average analyst target, and the math from a breakout does not pay enough for the risk.

Why it matters

The quarter was solid rather than surprising. PR Newswire carried the release: worldwide revenue of $17.404 billion, up 10.3% reported and 10.5% operational, with adjusted EPS of $3.82 and GAAP EPS of $2.37. Both EPS figures rose more than 100%, and both absorb a $0.11 per share hit from acquired IPR&D and milestones. The triple-digit EPS growth makes the headline, but 10% revenue growth is the cleaner measure of the business.

Most of the good news was already in the price. Investing.com noted that options implied a move of about 5% on the report. The stock is up 1.5% so far, well inside that range, after gaining 12.8% over the past month, 39.7% over six months and 29.2% year to date. Volume is running 75.8% below its 20-day average, which says little this early in the session. The market paid for the results in advance and is not adding much more on the day.

The recent gain owes more to the sector than to the market or the stock. Over five days ABBV rose 3.3%, the S&P 500 was flat, and the healthcare sector ETF (XLV) rose 4.1%, so the stock trailed its sector by 0.8 points. Today the pattern repeated: ABBV gained 1.5% and XLV 1.4% while the S&P 500 lost 1.2%. Benzinga pointed to futures falling after a more than 12% post-earnings drop in Alphabet, Middle East tensions and Brent crude at $111.88. Healthcare has been a place to be while the rest of the market wobbled, but the news provided does not explain why the whole sector rallied this week.

The argument about ABBV is whether the post-Humira franchise can carry the company. On the positive side, a CNBC Pro contributor CNBC described starting a position near $280, citing Skyrizi and Rinvoq at more than $8 billion in quarterly revenue. The more cautious framing comes from Yahoo Finance, which asked whether newer drugs can sustain a 54-year dividend-growth streak when Humira sales fell 36.1% to $756 million in the second quarter. It cited $325 as a figure. The pipeline is mixed too: lutikizumab met its Phase 3 goal in hidradenitis suppurativa, but Benzinga relayed an analyst view that efficacy fell short of benchmarks, with a 31.4% HiSCR75 response at Week 16. Meanwhile the FDA approved an at-home subcutaneous induction regimen for Skyrizi in Crohn's disease on October 23, 2026.

Valuation leaves less room. Of 27 analysts, the consensus is buy, but the mean price target is $283.19, and the range runs from $200 to $325. At $295.16 the stock is 4.2% above the average target and about 9% below the highest one. The market is already pricing in more than the typical analyst.

What the evidence says

The long-term thesis is intact. Price is above its 40-week average, the 50-day average at $269.30 sits well above the 200-day at $237.10, and the stock is 49.5% above its 52-week low of $197.38. This is a mature, extended uptrend: a stock at its highs after a sharp month, not one recovering from damage.

For the next two to six weeks the balance of evidence leans positive, and conviction is high at 3 of 4 points. The daily trend runs with the weekly uptrend. ABBV has led the S&P 500 over 50 days by 10.7 points and led XLV by 1.2. The lead over the sector is thin, which fits a week in which the stock lagged it.

The strongest case against this reading is price. RSI is 66.23, close to overbought. The stock trades above the mean analyst target. The measured upside to the next target is smaller than the downside to the stop, at 0.9 to 1. It also trailed its sector over five days, and volume has not confirmed anything yet. None of this breaks the trend, and trend and relative strength carry the weight in the short run. But it is why conviction stops at 3 of 4 points rather than all four.

Levels that matter

The structure holds above $275, a round number and the first place a pullback would show damage. Just beneath it sits the 50-day average at $269.30, and the trend ends below $267.02, a swing zone from earlier trading. Below that the next support is $260.16, then $250. A weekly close under $267.02 would mean the stock gave back the advance of the past several weeks.

The breakout level is a daily close above $300 on volume above its 20-day average. From $300 the next target is $325, a round number that is also the highest analyst target. The stop is $273.27, which is $275 minus a quarter of the 14-day average true range ($6.90). That gives 0.9 to 1 for reward against risk, short of the 3 to 1 that makes a breakout worth the risk. It would take a target far beyond $325, or a stop much closer to $300, to change that.

What would change the picture

The rule is a weekly close below $267.02. The non-price fact that would do it is evidence that Skyrizi and Rinvoq growth is slowing enough that the two drugs no longer offset Humira's erosion. That would hit the argument holding up the stock, and the trend would probably follow.
