EQT (EQT) stock analysis, November 3, 2026: Rally inside a weekly downtrend, evidence evenly balanced

Published November 3, 2026 · EQT chart, levels and live analysis

EQT Corp trades at $54.59 after a 2.8% five-day slide, and the evidence on the stock is even. The shares rallied 9% over a month but sit below their 40-week average, so this looks like a bounce inside a weekly downtrend, not a turn. Third-quarter earnings showed lower revenue and profit, and most of today's EQT headlines concern a different company. Conviction in the neutral reading is low.

Why it matters

Today's headlines carrying the EQT name are mostly not about this stock. Bloomberg reports that EQT AB bought Speedcast's ground stations unit for $300 million. Investing.com carries a Reuters piece on EQT's bidding war with Bain for Kakaku.com. EQT AB is a separate private-equity firm, and none of this touches the cash flows of this oil and gas producer. The news that does belong to EQT Corp is its quarterly filing. The 10-Q filed October 28, 2026 shows third-quarter revenue of $1.77 billion, down 10% from a year earlier, and net income of $278.7 million, down 17%. Diluted EPS was $0.44, also down 17%.

The market did not treat that as a shock. The stock closed at $56.27 on October 27, 2026, its recent peak, and has drifted 3.0% lower since. Volume is 59.5% below its 20-day average, which describes a quiet fade, not a rush for the exits.

Most of the last five days was the tape and the sector. EQT fell 2.8%, against 2.1% for the S&P 500 (SPY) and 2.0% for the energy sector fund XLE. The stock lagged its sector by 0.8 points, and no news explains that gap. The longer view is more mixed. Over one month EQT gained 9.0% against 6.5% for XLE and a 2.1% loss for the S&P 500. Year to date, though, EQT is up 2.1% while XLE is up 49.6% and the S&P 500 10.5%.

The feed holds no articles arguing either side of the stock, so we will not invent a debate. The measurable disagreement sits with analysts. Of 22 covering the stock, the consensus is strong buy, with a mean price target of $66.5 and a range from $52 to $77. The price is 17.9% below that mean, and the lowest target sits below today's price. The spread is wide, and the shares have not yet moved toward the optimistic end of it. Elsewhere in the sector, PR Newswire shows a law firm examining a proposed Range Resources transaction. That is a sign of deal activity among producers, not news about EQT.

What the evidence says

The long-term thesis is weakened, not broken. The price is below its 40-week average, so the weekly trend is down, and it is 19.6% under its 52-week high of $67.93. It is also 12.4% above the low of $48.56. The stock is in a recovery phase: it holds above the 10-week average and the 50-day average at $53.23, but it has not reclaimed the 200-day average at $55.62. Against the S&P 500 it is ahead by 4.3% over 50 days but behind by 5.6% over 200 days.

For the next 2 to 6 weeks the balance of evidence is even, and conviction is low at 1 point of 4. The bounce is not stretched, with the 14-day RSI at 58.7, so there is room for it to run. But it is a rally against the weekly trend, and the stock trails XLE by 0.3% over 50 days. Nothing lines up with the weekly downtrend, so the evidence neither supports a push higher nor a fresh leg down.

The strongest case against a neutral reading is the positive one. The stock is up 9.0% in a month, sits above its 50-day average, and has led the S&P 500 over 50 days. Analysts' mean target is far above the price. It does not tip the balance because the 200-day average caps the rally and the weekly trend is still down. Earnings also fell year over year, and the sector fund has outrun the stock this year. That tension is why conviction is not higher.

Levels that matter

In a downtrend the structure holds below $55.19, a swing zone where sellers have shown up on earlier rallies. The trend would end above $55.62, the 200-day average, on a weekly close. The two levels are only 43 cents apart, so there is one tight ceiling. Above it, the next resistance is $56.42, then $59.65 and $60.

The breakout level is on the downside: a daily close below $53.88. From there the first target is $53.23, the 50-day average, and the second is $52.53. Both sit close. Against a stop at $55.61, a quarter of an ATR above $55.19, the math gives 0.4 to 1 for the first target and 0.8 to 1 for the second. That is well short of the 3 to 1 that makes a breakout worth the risk. Only a target near the 52-week low of $48.56 would reach it, and that is far beyond the supports at $51.41 and $50.

What would change the picture

A weekly close above $55.62, the 200-day average, would be the first sign that buyers are back and the weekly downtrend is ending. The non-price fact that would do it is evidence that earnings have stopped shrinking: a quarter where revenue and EPS stop falling after the 10% and 17% declines in the third quarter.
