Ethereum USD (ETH-USD) stock analysis, October 29, 2026: oversold pullback tests the $2,250 floor

Published October 29, 2026 · ETH-USD chart, levels and live analysis

Ethereum (ETH-USD) fell 4.2% on October 29, 2026 to $2,257.72, extending a slide of 16.7% from its October 5 close of $2,711.03. The weekly uptrend is intact, with price still above its 40-week average, and the pullback has reached oversold. The balance of evidence leans positive for the next two to six weeks, but conviction is low: ETH-USD is lagging the S&P 500, and the structure rests on $2,250, just under the current price.

Why it matters

No single headline explains this move. The most recent sourced news in the feed dates from September, when PR Newswire carried Bitmine Immersion Technologies' announcement that it owned 6,001,302 ETH, 4.9% of total supply, valued at $2,698 a token. That marked corporate treasury demand at close to the price peak. Nothing published since explains why ETH-USD then gave back roughly a sixth of its value, so the October decline has to be read from the price action alone.

The market has reacted with force. The one-day drop of 4.2% came on volume 18.4% above the 20-day average, so the selling was active, not a thin-market drift. Over five days the price is down 4.2%, over one month 15.7%, and year to date 23.9%. The six-month change is a flat 0.2%, which shows that the rally into early October has been almost entirely erased.

This was not the market. Over the same five days the S&P 500 (SPY) gained 0.7%, while ETH-USD lost 4.2%. No sector fund is available as a comparison, so the move is specific to crypto or to ETH itself. The gap is wider over 50 days, where ETH-USD trails SPY by 10.1 points, and narrower over 200 days, where the lag is 2.8 points.

The feed holds no articles arguing a side, so the debate has to be stated from the evidence. The supportive side is the treasury bid that Bitmine's 4.9% of supply represents, along with spot ETF flows. The cautious side is the multi-month price record: on September 30, Fortune noted that ETH at $2,705.22 was already down $1,442.47 over the past year, and price is now lower still. There are no earnings, no analyst price targets and no valuation anchor here, so the argument is about flows, regulation and macro conditions such as rates and the dollar, not about a multiple.

What the evidence says

On the long term, the thesis is intact but under strain. Price is above its 40-week average and above the 200-day average at $2,159.16, which keeps the weekly trend pointed up. It is below the 10-week average and 18.7% under the 52-week high of $2,776.47, though 44.3% above the low of $1,564.82. That is the profile of a pullback inside an uptrend, not yet a broken trend.

For the next two to six weeks the balance of evidence leans positive, with low conviction: one of four points. The supporting point is that a pullback inside the weekly uptrend has reached oversold, with the 14-day RSI at 27.6. The point that is missing is relative strength, since lagging the S&P 500 by 10.1% over 50 days runs against the trend.

The strongest case against this reading is that selling is still in control. The asset has dropped 15.7% in a month, closed below its 10-week average, and fell hardest today on heavier volume. The oversold signal also carries little statistical weight: across 303 past cases of RSI falling below 30, 61.4% were higher a month later, against 61.8% for a typical month, with a median one-month move of 2.2%. Oversold alone has not given an edge. That is why the lean is positive but conviction stays low.

Levels that matter

The structure holds above $2,250, a round number that price is sitting on. A first crack comes below it, with $2,209.80 and $2,200 as the next supports. The trend itself ends below $2,159.16, the 200-day average, which also sits closest to the weekly trend that keeps the longer picture positive. Below that, the next marked support is $1,940.29.

The breakout level is a daily close above $2,300 on volume above its 20-day average, which would be the first sign that buyers are back. From there, the first target is $2,414.60, a prior swing zone, which gives 1.6 to 1 against a stop at $2,228.71 (the $2,250 level minus a quarter of the 14-day ATR of $85.16). The second target is the 50-day average at $2,529.86, which gives 3.2 to 1. The math therefore reaches 3 to 1 only at the second target, not the first. Resistance in between sits at $2,350.

What would change the picture

A weekly close below $2,159.16, the 200-day average, would turn a pullback in an uptrend into a broken trend. The non-price fact most likely to do it is sustained net outflows from spot ETH ETFs, or evidence that corporate treasury buyers such as Bitmine have stopped accumulating, since flows are the main support for the price.
