Renault SA (RNO.PA) stock analysis, October 30, 2026: Rally into the 200-day average leaves trend undecided

Published October 30, 2026 · RNO.PA chart, levels and live analysis

Renault SA (RNO.PA) jumped 6.7% over five days to 27.65 EUR, then gave back 1.8% on Friday as the broader market sold off. The rally has lifted the stock above its 50-day average but left it under the 200-day average and the 40-week line, so the longer downtrend is intact. The balance of evidence now sits even, with low conviction, a step down from the bearish reading of two weeks ago.

Why it matters

The news flow in the file does not explain this week's move. The most recent items are from September: a Reuters Breakingviews column and a handful of industry stories, nothing dated to the October rally. When a stock rises 6.7% in five days with no company event behind it, the move is usually positioning and relief rather than a change in the business. That fits the volume, which on Friday was 31.5% below its 20-day average. The bounce has not drawn heavy participation.

The attribution is mostly the stock's own. Over five days the S&P 500 fell 0.6% and the consumer discretionary sector ETF, XLY, rose 2.0%. RNO.PA's 6.7% gain therefore beat the sector by 4.7 points and the market by far more. Only a small part of the move came from the sector; most was specific to Renault. The stock peaked at 28.17 EUR on October 28, then slipped to 27.65, 1.8% below that peak, as the S&P 500 dropped 1.8% on Friday.

The argument over the stock is about whether cheap means mispriced or deserved. The bearish side is laid out by Reuters Breakingviews, which argues that low valuations at Volkswagen, Stellantis and Renault reflect a structural crisis, with Chinese rivals such as BYD winning on battery technology and scale. Forbes puts Chinese brands at nearly 10% of the European market, heading to 15–20% by 2030. The more constructive side points to Renault's partner: Morningstar says Nissan's turnaround plan is regaining traction, and Renault owns 35.7% of Nissan.

Valuation shows how far the two camps are apart. Eighteen analysts have a positive consensus rating and a mean price target of 37.92 EUR, 27.1% above the current price. Their targets run from 26.00 EUR to 68.30 EUR, a very wide spread, and the lowest sits only slightly below where the stock trades. The stock is down 21.9% this year and 26.1% below its 52-week high of 37.40 EUR. That gap suggests the market is not accepting the consensus view.

What the evidence says

The long-term thesis is weakened, not repaired. The price is below its 40-week average, the stock is down about 7.1% over six months, and the 200-day average at 28.58 EUR is where sellers have shown up on earlier rallies. The stock sits in a bounce phase inside a larger downtrend: it has recovered 12.0% from the 52-week low of 24.68 EUR but remains far from reclaiming the highs.

For the next two to six weeks the balance of evidence is even, and conviction is low, at 1 of 4. On October 16, 2026 the earlier report was bearish with high conviction, with the downtrend confirmed and the 50-day average at 27.60 EUR as the line that would change the picture. That line has been crossed. The stock is above the 50-day average (27.42 EUR) and above its 10-week average, and RSI at about 55 is neutral, not stretched. The weekly trend is still down, so the rally is not aligned with it, and that lack of alignment is a large part of why conviction is low. Relative strength is mixed: the stock leads the S&P 500 by 0.1% over 50 days, which is nothing, and lags XLY by 1.5%.

The strongest case against an even reading is the bearish one. The stock is still under the 200-day average and the 40-week line, the rally came on thin volume, and Friday's drop took it back below Wednesday's peak. The strongest argument for the stock is the opposite: a 6.7% weekly gain, a 4.7-point lead over the sector, and a position above the 50-day average. Neither side has enough to tip the balance, which is why the reading is even and conviction low.

Levels that matter

The structure stays negative while the stock is under 28.58 EUR, the 200-day average. Above it, resistance comes at 29.05 EUR, a swing zone where the weekly trend would end on a weekly close above. Higher resistance sits at 29.69 EUR, 30.00 EUR and 30.24 EUR. Support is the 50-day average at 27.42 EUR, then 27.05 EUR, with the round 25.00 EUR, the 52-week low at 24.68 EUR and a swing zone at 24.52 EUR further down.

The breakout in play is to the downside: a daily close below 27.42 EUR. From there the first target is 27.05 EUR and the second is 24.68 EUR. The level that would prove the move wrong is 28.81 EUR, which is the 200-day average plus a quarter of the 14-day average true range. The math gives 0.3 to 1 to the first target and 2.0 to 1 to the 52-week low. That does not reach the 3 to 1 that makes a breakout worth the risk. It would need a much closer stop or a target below the 52-week low, and the next level down, 24.52 EUR, adds almost nothing.

What would change the picture

A weekly close above 29.05 EUR would end the downtrend structure, because it would put the stock above the 200-day average and the swing zone where rallies have failed. Price alone would not settle it. The non-price fact that would do the job is evidence that Renault is holding its European market share against Chinese rivals while protecting margins, which is the direct counter to the argument in the Breakingviews column.
